While Mexico abolished formal caste distinctions after gaining independence from Spain in the 19th century, socio-economic disparities based on race and ethnicity have persisted. White Mexicans, particularly those of European descent, have significant economic, political, and social power in Mexico, Almost resembling South Africa during the apartheid. This influence often stems from the privileges inherited from colonial times, including land ownership, access to education, and political representation.

Mexico needs to address the colorism problem and stereotypes perpetuated by media and popular culture, along with focusing on Increasing representation of its majority mixed ethnic group in government and institutions.
