Drug War Bloomberg Originals: Why Mexico Is Militarizing

Mexico has been facing significant challenges over the years, especially with the rise of powerful cartels that threaten the safety and security of its citizens. In response to this growing threat, Mexico has made its military the centerpiece in its fight against cartels, as well as in building public infrastructure under budget. This approach has raised eyebrows in the U.S., where there is a hesitancy to support such a strategy due to concerns about military involvement in domestic affairs.

The military has been successful in capturing high-profile cartel leaders, seizing large quantities of drugs, and dismantling criminal networks. This has led to a high approval rating for the military among Mexican citizens who see them as protectors of their safety and security.

While Mexico's reliance on the military to combat cartels and drive infrastructure development may seem unconventional to some, it has yielded positive results thus far.

One of the problems I find with most U.S. media reports on Mexico is how they always have an anti-AMLO opposition take on any given issue. It's as if they are only interested in one side of the issue, one that makes the government look bad.
