The grant is funded through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME) via the IME-BECAS Program; "becas" is the Spanish word for scholarships.

IME-Becas Matching Gift Scholarship Program

El Consulado General de Mexico funds the IME-Becas grant program in Santa Cruz County which is administered through the Consulado General en Nogales, Arizona. IME-Becas is a program of the Government of Mexico that seeks to expand educational opportunities for Mexicans abroad and is aimed at students with low economic resources who attend basic, university, and technological education. In 2018, El Consulado General de Mexico awarded the Santa Cruz Center Educational Foundation $20,000 in matching funds to provide concurrent enrollment, tuition, and college and career readiness activities for eighty (80) students. These students will participate in the Career Readiness Educational Opportunities Project (CREO) program that will prepare them for continuing education and professional careers in the STEM related industries located in Southern Arizona.
