In spite of American objection to Mexico's use of the military in its fight against the drug cartels the Mexican Congress has voted in Favour of extending the presence of the military role in fighting drug crime until 2028.
The Mexican army along with the National Guard has been carrying out public security duties for years as part of Mexico's new war strategy against drugs and the gangs which control their trade. But American critics say extending the military's duties for another four years further militarizes the country.
What we do know today is Mexico was heading towards an upward trend concerning drug crimes and today that trend has stalled and with the full implementation of AMLO'S plan, that crime is expected to drop.
