I wrote this poem for my mother, Rosa. MUJER DE MI VIDA in Spanish means "Woman of my life". She and my father came to the US illegally with my older sister. My younger sister and I were born in California. My family then moved to KC when I was 3 yrs old. When I was about 4 or 5, my father left my mother to raise us by herself. She didn't speak English nor did she have a job at the time to support us. A local church took us in until my mother found a job and was able to rent a small, one bedroom apartment in KC's Westside neighborhood. My mother struggled but we never saw it. She would work numerous jobs but always made sure that we had food, clean clothes and were cared for when she was at work. She taught us to love and have faith in God and to love and take care of each other. I grew up angry at my father and it wasn't till I came back from the army that I realized that my mom was all the father I needed. So I wrote this poem for her as a tribute. Enjoy.
MUJER DE MI VIDA by chato v.
My life has been filled with many riches, but the most important is your
Unconditional love. You've laughed with me, cried for me, cared for me,
Just like and angel from above.
Every time I've fallen, you were there to break the fall. I'd
Run from you, and disppointed you often, but that
Didn't seem to matter to you at all. and
Even when I'd run away , you'd pray that I'd be alright. And when
My father left us, is was you who taught me how to fight.
I've become a respected man, and it is you who I give my thanks to. You taught me the
Values of life, so I thank you for being a great father too.
I don't know how you did it, but a strong woman you definately are. You
Didn't finish school, and still you've pushed me far. One day I will marry,
And maybe have a son, and if he should ever need a role model,
MUJER DE MI VIDA, you raised the perfect one. GRACIAS MAMA.
