The once-dominant Sinaloa Cartel, founded by Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, has experienced internal fractures since his arrest and extradition to the U.S. in 2017. The cartel is now divided between factions loyal to El Chapo's sons (known as "Los Chapitos") and those supporting his former lieutenant, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada. This internal struggle has weakened the cartel’s cohesion.
