Politics

The political system in Mexico operates as a federal presidential representative democratic republic. The government is based on a multi-party congressional system, with the President of Mexico serving as both the head of state and the head of government.

The federal government, representing the United Mexican States, is divided into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial, as outlined by the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, published in 1917. Additionally, each constituent state within the federation is required to maintain a republican form of government based on a congressional system, as mandated by their respective constitutions.
