The images that come to mind when one thinks of Texas may include cowboys, honky-tonks, and sprawling oil fields. But there's a darker side to the Lone Star State that has been making headlines in recent months. Along the floating border barrier, which is meant to keep out migrants attempting to cross into the United States from Mexico, families have reportedly gotten trapped on razor wire. The clothing that gets caught on the wire is a haunting reminder of the desperation that drives people to attempt such a dangerous journey. Even more disturbingly, migrant children have been left bloody by the razor wire. This is just one aspect of the human cost of border control policies that sometimes seem to have lost sight of the humanity at the heart of the debate.
