Rose, sense you mentioned human nature, I thought your answer would deal with the human nature--in other words, is it your contention that it is human nature to be xenophobic (or racist*)? And if so, why do you think it's by nature (biology) and not by culture (learned behavior)?
Now, on to the "number"--two, to be exact--of non-White Professors who have said that Whites need to be exterminated yet they are still allowed to be Professors.
First, maybe you have more examples, but your two examples hardly rise to the impression you gave of having read about a number of racist non-White professors who still teach at colleges or universities.
Let's get Kamau Kambon out of the way. He is clearly an hateful guy--an example, I think, of what hate produces--bigotry and self-loathing. But is he still teaching in at a public university? If not, he can’t honestly be an example of what you said you read about, right?
Now, Nikki Giovanni's poem doesn't appear to be a call to exterminate Whites; in fact, no where is that stated or implied. While I'm no connoisseur of poetry--and this poem doesn't cause me to want to change that--I don't see it as racist. And, I'd have no problem--as long as she is qualified--with her teaching at a public university.
Now Jose Angel Gutierrez: again, no where is he calling for the outright killing of Whites. He qualifies his statement--although not clearly--with "if worst comes to worst." Maybe that means if whites try to kill us, we must kill them--who knows? He does, but it's not on record. More investigation is needed before it can be rightfully said he’s calling for the extermination of Whites. Again, there is no blanket call to kill Whites indiscriminately. And again, I wouldn't have a problem, based on what I’ve read about him so far, with him teaching in a public university.
Now with that being said, I sure wouldn't want my kids--if I had any--listening to that BS uncritically. And I do think his rhetoric is self-serving mindless drivel that appeals, I think, only to a infinitesimal minority--usually young college students who don't have a mortgage, a car note payment, or who don't even cook for themselves yet--who even passingly listen to what he says
And perhaps, I'm more comfortable with allowing people who work in the public sphere to speak their minds, no matter how distasteful I find their ideas, than you. As long as their personal views don’t unfairly interfere with their work, I tend not to have an aversion to people, with whom I disagree, teaching in public schools.
* I tend to have strict definition of "racism," and I also tend to think that the term is used too often and improperly. This would be one, but sense it's commonly used this way, I mentioned it.
