Mexico's Agriculture U.S & Mexico's Trade Representatives Talk About Energy and GMO Corn exports

Mexican agriculture is based on a variety of crops, including maize (corn), wheat, beans, rice, and coffee. Mexico is one of the world’s leading producers of these crops. Mexican farmers also grow a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, avocados, strawberries, and squash.

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai said they "underlined the importance of making expeditious progress in addressing the issues in Mexico's energy sector," the statement said. She also emphasized "the importance of avoiding a disruption in U.S. corn exports."

A decree issued in 2020 by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador aims to phase out genetically modified corn and the herbicide glyphosate by 2024. As a result, American farmers have been scrambling and are lobbying the U.S Government to force Mexico into Buying AMERICAN Genetically Modified Corn.

The U.S will most likely want to force Mexico into buying American GMO corn for Mexico's general population. Unfortunately, most U.S-Mexico trade talks have been one-sided as America has used its economic strength to force the smaller country Mexico into submission.

Mexico's president, for his part, wants to prioritize Mexican Corn, a Much healthier alternative to American Corn.
