Mexican Americans are a unique cultural group in the United States, with many identifying with American culture as well as their Mexican heritage. Mexican Americans have made significant contributions to American society, particularly in the areas of politics, literature, art, and cuisine. In recent years, Mexican food has become extremely popular in U.S. households; however, not all dishes offered at most restaurants are truly Mexican in origin. Many of these dishes originated with Spanish colonization and were later adapted by Mexicans to reflect local ingredients that can be found along Mexico’s coasts and mountainous regions. Mexican Americans today continue to provide delicious culinary experiences through the preparation of classic dishes that come from both their native land and adopted home.
