It's actually more accurate to say United States. When US citizens claim themselves to be the "real Americans" they are either simply arrogant, ignorant, or both. In my instance with the dude from El Salvador, I was ignorant.

To which one student responded with "We are all from America [motioning with her arms], we are all Americans."
