true american????????

I think you have to have a resident visa, my mom updated hers several years ago.
But the downside? She cannot vote or that is what she has told me, and as much as she is into politics I think that this would be an incentive for her to apply for her citizenship, but in her words, "I have my reasons little girl"

Maybe sentimentality. That can be pretty strong. My family members are all "sentimental fools". Me included I guess.

Dont get sassy mr....You are not too old to put over my knee:p
btw I am most certain you knew I was replying to peanut.
I know, I was just answering you question--I wasn't only directing my response to you. I think citizens of the US have usurped the name "American" because this country never really adopted a proper name.

Yes, I think that is it...and so am I.:o

Good to know!:p

I remember making the mistake of talking to this newly arrived dude from El Salvador and asking him how long he had been in "America". He said he was from El Salvador hence he has always been in America.

I didn't know any better at the time.

Yeah, simpler to just say United States.

Yeah, simpler to just say United States.

It's actually more accurate to say United States. When US citizens claim themselves to be the "real Americans" they are either simply arrogant, ignorant, or both. In my instance with the dude from El Salvador, I was ignorant.

 Then she must be the coolest ever!:p

Yes, she is cool. She is my second oldest sister.

Agreed again, but I think at times we (U.S) citizens really do not think of this at the time and I dunno about you but I would feel weird saying "I am a united states citizen" feels a little stuffy

True. And long.

haha
Similar thing happened to a friend of my mother who taught English at adult night school. She said to the class, which was all "Latino," "I'm an American, what are you?" To which one student responded with "We are all from America [motioning with her arms], we are all Americans." This lady told my mom that she had had an epiphany that night of how arrogant and self-centered "Americans" can be.

Exactly. You are an American if you are from the Americas.

United States Citizen of the North American Continent, Continent of the Americas/Hemisphere of the Americas.

I live in Denton, Texas, as in the city, which also resides in the county of Denton, which is not to be confused with the city within the county bearing the same name. I also acknowledge that there are other towns of different names within the county known as Denton, not to be confused with the city of Denton which is also in the county of Denton.

If I could spell kermuggin I would call you that, but I can't so I won't. Go nit pick with somebody else. It's boring.
lol Actually, you're the one running after me.

Not to hear some whites tell it.
They seem to get all offended when that fact is revealed to them, and blather on about anything that will keep them from acknowledging the truth.
