See, I was once like you, oh believe me its true
Slacked off, you would almost never see me in school
Didnt care for my studies, cuz what good were grades
When I had no thoughts on what I would be today
Especially with a family with a lotta money problems
Had solutions, but really, only money could solve em
I declared my life hopeless, so I did what I could
Chilled with my friends, drank, hit what was good
Thought about dropping out, had no purpose to stay
But my parents said gut it out, I respected their say
See, I wasnt good in school, but I was a good son
The bills were hard to pay but they always got done.
I listened to my parents, even stayed an extra year
My goal was to graduate, and that moment was near
My marks were improving slowly on the grind, everyday
And soon enough, college was in my mind in everyway
My marks were still low, so I kept my focus on knowledge
And after exams, I was accepted to a local college
My parents were ecstatic, and surely I was happy too
We were all "Good God Almighty!" like Nappy Roots
Now I know you dont believe a word I gotta say
But I dont want you kids to grow up a harder way...
